Inside Out is our first major solo exhibition in China. Our goal was to challenge conventional notions of art and provoke critical thought while engaging viewers in an immersive experience. The works are an explosion of energy, bursting with iconic symbols, cultural references, and a sense of humor that invites viewers to embrace the vibrant and celebratory side of contemporary art. The exhibition's title alludes to the concepts of interiority and exteriority pertaining to both our inner world and emotional experiences, as well as the external social realm. We explored these elements through the use of visual symbols and icons to interpret the world around us with a sense of a lightness, while also representing a variety of narrative layers about our lives and the world today. In this way they create a dialogue between the real and the imagined. Through zooming in on several fundamental objects and their symbolic value the show aims to investigate our changing relationship to the physical and virtual worlds around us and the role of material objects therein. By combining three-dimensional sculptural works and two-dimensional surfaces varying in scales, from the larger-than-life to the very intimate, an immersive world is created wherein the viewer is provoked to contemplate our obsessive focus on material matter, its emotional value and its place in our lives. With thanks to the R+ Production team and the K11 Foundation.
